In the summer months, the high mountain landscape around Lago di Livigno is rather inconspicuous. Snow-covered mountains are seldom seen here; only the Orter and Bernina massifs rise high enough to support a glaciated roof even in summer. In autumn, however, this changes and the time of the shining larches dawns.
The mountain slopes are crisscrossed with patches of bright yellow that contrast beautifully with the first white of the approaching winter, the blue of the sky and the dark green of other conifers.
