The Säntis is probably one of those mountains for which the mountaineering wisdom applies: when you stand on the summit, you can no longer see the actual mountain. This is especially true for very prominent mountains like the Matterhorn or the 2502 meter high Säntis in Appenzellerland, because especially from a distance they look very majestic.
To capture this scene before sunrise, a photo location several dozen kilometers away was the right choice. With a telephoto lens we were able to capture this incredible mood, the colors in the sky glowing in stark contrast to the mountain ranges and terrain shapes in the foreground.
