Key point

The 1st day is also the most demanding. With a length of around 24 kilometres and a walking time of 7-8 hours, this tour is a physical challenge.

This hike is still new to us - we know parts of the route, but not every section in detail. The itinerary therefore serves as a rough guide and can be adapted along the way. That's what makes this tour special: it's a shared adventure where we discover the route as a group. Because not everything is planned in advance, we offer the tour at a reduced price - with all the more heart, spontaneity and spirit of discovery.

Day 1: Crans-Montana – Leukerbad

We start our hike in elegant Crans-Montana and immediately immerse ourselves in the high-altitude world of Valais. We follow panoramic high-altitude paths past mountain farms and water pipes to Leukerbad - famous for its thermal springs. If you like, treat yourself to a dip or enjoy a cosy evening in the village.

  • Distance: 24 km
  • Ascent: 900 Hm
  • Descent: 900 Hm
  • Net walking time: 8 hours

Day 2: Leukerbad – Jeizinen (Area Gampel)

From the starting point, we follow ancient paths to the historic village of Albinen high above the Rhône valley and continue via Bärtschen and Engers to Jeizinen. The views are breathtaking and, depending on our plans, we can either spend the night in Jeizinen or take a gentle descent to Gampel. Alternatively, we can take the cable car from Jeizinen down into the valley.

  • Distance: 23 km
  • Ascent: 950 Hm
  • Descent: bis Jeizinen 800 Hm, bis Gampel 1700 Hm
  • Net walking time: 8 hours

Day 3: Jeizinen/Gampel – Ausserberg

The third day of the Walliser Sonnenweg connects Jeizinen/Gampel with Ausserberg and delights with impressive panoramic views and cultural traces. We hike along old irrigation channels and sunny mountain paths through quiet forests and across open slopes - always accompanied by views of the wide Rhone Valley. The destination is Ausserberg or a nearby village.

  • Distance: 13 km
  • Ascent: 650 Hm
  • Descent: 300 Hm
  • Net walking time: 4 hours

Day 4: Ausserberg – Brig

The fourth section leads from Ausserberg to Brig and follows scenic paths along historic irrigation channels and the Lötschberg mountain railway. Impressive views of the Rhone Valley open up along the way, before the tour reaches its crowning glory at the imposing Stockalper Palace in Brig.

  • Distance: 17 km
  • Ascent: 550 Hm
  • Descent: 900 Hm
  • Net walking time: 5.5 hours

The Walliser Sonnenweg is as lovely as its name suggests! It runs along the sun-kissed side of the Rhone Valley, and the views of the Valais four-thousand-metre peaks are simply breathtaking. You'll also get to experience a rich Alpine cultural landscape. The trails wind their way past charming bisses, along historic alpine paths, through fragrant larch forests and lively mountain villages.

We're going to meet up in Crans Montana, and we'll let you know the exact meeting point well in advance, which is easily accessible by public transport. Our destination is Brig, where there are good train connections.

We like to keep things simple, so we stay in hotels, guesthouses or sometimes in a dormitory, depending on what is available. We usually share double rooms, but if you'd like a single room, just let us know and we'll do our best to arrange it for you.

If you request a single room and it's available, we'll be happy to add it to your bill, along with the estimated price. We'll let you know the exact costs for this later on, so you can relax and enjoy your trip planning!

Breakfast is included in the price. We organise the evening meal individually - either together or on our own as the mood takes us. This leaves room for everyone.
