During sunrise and sunset, in good weather and sunshine, there is a short period of time in which the details of the landscape almost disappear in the low light and only the contours of mountains, buildings and other landscape components are razor-sharp. The whole of nature seems to be reduced to its essence, with all details disappearing in the warm light of the rising or setting sun.
Our picture of the month for April 2024 shows such a scene in the mountains of Central Switzerland above the Sattelegg, a small pass in the canton of Schwyz that connects the Einsiedeln region with the Wägital. The Rigi, a 1,798 m high mountain directly above Lake Lucerne, dominates the motif with its radio infrastructure at the summit, to which several cable cars and cogwheel railroads lead. In the foreground, the forests around Einsiedeln and a light blanket of fog are already in the shade, with only the sky still bathed in a golden light by the last rays of sunshine.
